Indie Artist Breezy247 Chops It Up With The Dubb Spot

He’s An Indie Artist From The Motor City

Let’s Take A Look At What Indie Artist Breezy247 Has Going On

DSR: Welcome Breezy247! Let the people know where you are from.

Breezy247: Coming str8 out of Detroit, Michigan

DSR: Every indie artist has a stage name, what is the significance of yours?

Breezy247: Well originally my name was Kbreezy which isn’t so original. So I figured I’d do a name change before I made some major moves. I took off the K and kept Breezy and added on the 247 after signifying that I stay true to myself all day every day, no matter what.

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in music and wanted to be an indie artist?

Breezy247: 14, I have always had a passion for music but one day I got amped up and picked up a pen. I must admit it was the wackest shit but since that day I’ve been completely devoted towards working and perfecting my craft.

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far as an indie artist and if so, what are they?

Breezy247: Plenty of lessons become apparent when self-managing myself and a label. To keep it short I can mainly say too many people expect handouts everyone wants to take shortcuts in this game when it takes time to grow. And D.J’s and show promoters make you pay them to perform, I feel like I have the talent to bring down the house but you want ME to pay YOU? Come on I deserve a free slot or sumn’. Also signing the dotted line of a record deal, a few years ago I signed with a local label and was completely shelfed, but I won’t go in to too many details on that, just watch who you invest yourself into. But other than that the list can go on but a part of this game is making mistakes and learning from them to become a better, stronger artist.

DSR: After reading your bio, it seems as if you stayed on a constant grind and was determined to get your music in front of everyone you could. Can you speak on how you managed to handle all of that as an indie artist?

Breezy247: From having such a passion for music since a kid I learned a lot about having an online presence and good marketing, as an artist I truly believe in investing into my work. I got tired of waiting around for studio times and everyone wanting money so I invested in my own studio, programs, marketing etc. From there on I created my own music, mixing, mastering, promotion, music videos, and became self-managed. Sometimes it gets hard managing myself and my label but at the end of the day it’s all for the love of music.

DSR: Being an indie artist sometimes it can be hard trying to attract the type of attention you’d want to from your fan base. How would it feel to be putting out a lot of money and not seeing any of it come back in from failed promoting attempts?

Breezy247: No one likes wasting money lol. But one thing about that is you know where the mistake has happened and this will make you a better artist every time. This game is about taking risks, if you don’t take them then you won’t make it anywhere or might be stuck in one lane, one of my favorite quotes is, “Chances Make Champions.”

DSR: And with perseverance you managed to come through it all! That’s rare for an indie artist. Where can the people find you performing these days? <img title="cavataclothing" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/cavataclothing-200x300.jpg" alt="indie artist"width="200" height="300" />

Breezy247: Usually local spots all around Michigan.

DSR: How would you describe your sound as an indie artist to someone who has never heard it before?

Breezy247: Very unique, I like to switch up styles a lot, I hate sticking to the same sound. I try my best to think outside the box and not be like other artist’s. Just like I stated earlier I must stay true to myself at all times.

DSR: Not every indie artist writes their own songs. Who is in charge of writing your songs? Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Breezy247: Of course all my songs are written by me. And it just depends on what’s going on in my life at the time. Sometimes I try to take everyday living situations and turn them into a poem that people can follow along to and feel on a personal level.

DSR: As an indie artist if you had to put yourself into a genre or create your own, what would it be called?

Breezy247: Gotta be that Trill Music.

DSR: You’re one indie artist that stays on the grind. Are you working on any projects at the moment?

Breezy247: I’m actually working on an album/mixtape called #3rd Chakra, I’m thinking about putting it on LiveMixtapes as well as an album on iTunes in case people love it they can make a purchase to help out. The entire album will be produced by @Kushingham a fellow producer on my label.

DSR: We ask every indie artist, “where can we find your music online and offline?”

Breezy247: I’m everywhere lol mainly people subscribe to my Youtube www.youtube.com/kdeezytbg but, your best bet is just hop on Google and search Breezy247 That’s where my investing comes in you will find me EVERYWHERE! As far as offline I go around putting my cd’s into gas stations or directly into someone’s hands, promotions always a priority of mine.

DSR: If you can change one thing about the music industry being an indie artist what would it be and why?

Breezy247: Mainstream scams, by that I mean the industry is a trickster. They make you believe negative music is all you can do to make it. Everyone’s story sounds the same.. Money, Cars, and Hoes. There’s more to it than that and people should just stick to them being thereself but the industry is who tricks our young people into believing those are goals in life. To sum it up just be yourself, don’t portray an image you AINT!

DSR: What other talents do you possess being an indie artist?

Breezy247: Many talents for my young age of 19. Aside from rapping I run my own label www.2breezyent.com I am a recording engineer, mixer, master, director, promoter, marketer, and graphic designer.

DSR: We ask all the artists we interview, what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?

Breezy247: That’s a good one. For this one I’m gonna have to stick with what my mom has implanted in my head since a baby. You can be whatever you want to be if you put your mind to it. I’ve stuck by that line ever since that day at age 14 when I picked up that pen and started writing, and will NEVER lose hope of my goals. #TrillShit

Thanks Breezy247. You’re An Indie Artist Trying To Make A Difference In The Game.

He’s an artist with a unique style created from his extensive love for music.

Let’s see what the artist General is laying down for us today.

DSR: Welcome General! Let the people know where you are from.

General: I was born in the Midwest, Chicago. I moved from there when I was 5 and moved to my desert home Las Cruces NM. Small town.

DSR: What is the significance of your artist name?

General: My name I got from always stepping up and taking the lead position I never step back. General is a name used in the military and it is given to leaders of the army. Commander of the Army is a 5 star General. I’m the Commander of the Rebels and MBG so that’s why my name is General. I’m not the only General but I am the only General of the MBG Rebels.

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in music?

General: I started to enjoy music and dream at the age of 7 this was because I heard my first Rap song which was introduced to me by my big brother. The song was by Nas “Nas is like” shortly after that I began trying to develop rhymes but I was young so of course they were lame but I got better. The metal and rock influence came from around the same time I heard a song by the legendary Metallica “One” it was like being born again my love for metal stretches longer than my love for hip hop. So I started to develop a natural style to be both like a hybrid musician.

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far as an artist and if so, what are they?

General: I’ve learned too many lessons to tell in one interview. One lesson that keeps me going that I learned early was no matter what keep learning and searching for the right ways in the industry and don’t just think that everything is given. In my early days before I was anything I thought I could give one song to a label and I’d be the next Kanye. I learned fast that this is not how things work and in learning that I learned the key lesson that put me where I am today and that is “No one will invest in you, until you invest in yourself” to anyone starting out that may read this interview you’re going to have to learn this for yourself.

DSR: After reading your bio, it seems as if you stayed on a constant grind and was determined to get your music in front of everyone you could. Can you speak on how you managed to handle all of that?

General: Well once you realize that this is the road you want to take work never stops and yeah being an a musician is hard work and at times degrading. I say that because some of the professionals I’ve dealt with have talked down to me and made me feel low and stupid for even trying. How I handled all of that was by finding solid people to call partners people to keep me up when I’m down I may be General but I’m still human and this industry can kill you. Also I find my escape by delivering my story and message through my music and keeping that vibe that positive vibe and knowing in my heart that no one can touch the Rebels. It’s all about never backing down and never giving up because I’m just as good as the next guy if not better and I am not afraid to get out there and lay it all on the line.

DSR: Sometimes it can be hard trying to attract the type of attention you’d want to from your artist fan base. How did it feel to be putting out a lot of money and not seeing any of it come back in from your failed promoting attempts as an artist?

General: It was hard in the beginning before I realized that key I spoke of early. No one will invest in you unless you invest in yourself. It killed me to bust my ass every day and not even have one token of approval from anyone or anything. In the beginning people really close to me doubted me and hated me for my life choice. I lost them along the way so yeah it was hard in the beginning. As for the fans I stopped putting so much energy into getting attention and more into my craft developed myself to the best of my ability and budget and here I stand.

DSR: And with perseverance you managed to come through it all! Where can the people find you performing these days?

General: You can find the Rebels performing right now from the southwest to the wild-west to the west coast. The Rebels have two shows coming up in April out in Arizona stay tuned in to the official Facebook and Website for further details.

DSR: How would you describe your sound as an artist to someone who has never heard it before?

General: New!!! Rebel!!! hah nah it’s not what your use to hearing from the message all the way down to the voice all I can say is witness it for yourself. The way it has been described to me from others is inspirational and that’s a great start. The best way to describe it is Punk Rap we mix so many different types of influences into it. It’s raw and real.

DSR: Who is in charge of writing the songs?

General: I’m in charge of writing my songs I’ve always written my own songs and recorded them too. Most of the time the most complex sounding songs I’ll make were made in 5 to 10 minutes music is truly in my veins in my blood in my soul.

DSR: Where or which artist do you draw your inspiration from?

General: Sounds crazy but I draw most of my inspiration from positive rock bands. Like one of my favorite bands that saved my life at a time when I felt I had nothing left to give the world is Black Veil Brides I love this band and their message is so powerful it helps me to remember why I want to make songs that help people get through their days. Like my song “Reborn” was written on one of my darkest days and in writing it, it didn’t only help me get back up but also the people who hear it. Reborn can be downloaded directly from my website.

DSR: If you had to put yourself into a genre or create your own, what would it be called?

Rebel.

DSR: Are you working on any projects at the moment?

General: Yes I’ve completed my freshman mix tape titled Rebel and put out a 3 track EP also titled Rebel and is set to be distributed shortly. Currently I am working on my new project O.A.R. X A.A.R. Once A Rebel X Always A Rebel. It’s gonna be my second mix tape and it has an even more different sound I’ll be straying away from the early sound to give the audience a different taste.

DSR: Where can we find your music? Online and offline?

General: Online you can find my music on my official artist Facebook page and of course if you want to stay in touch with everything you can go to my official website http://therebelgeneral.com Offline you can pick up the 3 track EP depending on the area you live in. The Title is “Rebel” and also you can come out and support my shows where we will also have the 3 track EP.

DSR: If you can change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?

General: I would change what they allow the public to see which, is only half of it. If these kids really knew what some of their favorite artist were like it would change the way they look at them.

DSR: What other talents do you possess other than an artist?

General: I’m a business man I co run a magazine in LA called PUSH magazine and I’m also an athlete I was a track star I could have went to a D1 program for track. I also played football. I have a lot of talents I’m a nerd I can hack too so watch your back haha.

DSR: We ask each artist that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?

General: The best piece of advice I’ve gotten was develop yourself choose your own path be yourself and never let anyone change who you truly are. Find a lane and run with it to the top.

Appreciate you General. It’s always a pleasure to talk to an upcoming artist on the Dubb Spot!

He Is A Music Artist From The DMV Area Known For His High Energy Performances.

We Had The Chance To Interview Music Artist Septimius The Great And Talk About His Experience Being An Entertainer.

<img class="alignleft" title="DSC_9850" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSC_9850.jpg" alt="music artist"width="215" height="322" />

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in becoming a music artist?

Septimius: 31

DSR: So you’re from the DMV area. How is it to be an indie music artist in the DMV?

Septimius: I’m From Baltimore and being from DMV seems to make a music artist under estimated until given the platform to show the world and then and only then we become the newest and hottest thing on the scene. Even though we have been kicking out great artists and music for years past.

DSR: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?

Septimius: International Dance music with a fusion of Hip Hop, Pop, Rock and some opera

DSR: What influences shaped your musical style?

Septimius: Prince, Lady Gaga and Will.I.am

DSR: As a music artist, if you had to put yourself into a genre or create your own, what would it be called?

Septimius: Dance Music or the new termed Hip Pop

DSR: Who is in charge of writing the songs?

Septimius: I write about 80% of my songs but recently have been collaborating with other writers for more variety as a music artist.

DSR: As a music artist, where do you draw your inspiration from?

Septimius: I draw my inspiration from the history of the real Septimius Severus (first African roman emperor) and other than that its sex, fell good, curiosity and sadness.

DSR: So, we all know you’re a singer, but you’re also a songwriter. What’s the easiest kind of song for you to write?

Septimius: Something sexual is easy but also Heartache

DSR: Being an established music artist in the DMV area, what is your main goal at this point?

Septimius: To be nominated for a World Music Awards, Grammy or BET award.

DSR: Where do you possibly see yourself as a music artist in 5-10 years from now? <img class="alignright" title="DSC_9857" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSC_9857.jpg" alt="music artist"width="269" height="402" />

Septimius: Still putting out singles that makes a person want to dance but most importantly – traveling the world and experiencing different people, cultures and lands.

DSR: Tell us about the musical giants who profoundly inspired you, such as a music artist like Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder (the Black artist awarded the most Grammys), and Michael Jackson.

Septimius: Prince for his original sound, look and mystery, Lady Gaga for her boldness and ability to transform and make the public buy into it. Will.I.Am for his mind, keen ear for music, originality and creativeness. All this factors make an artist memorable, long standing, awarded, admired, and looked up to.

DSR: Are there any music artist(s) you wish to work with in the future?

Septimius: Pitbull, and Flo Rida,

DSR: If you could create your dream tour, which music artist(s) would be a part of it?

Septimius: Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Prince and Pitbull

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far being a music artist and if so, what are they?

Septimius: 1. Never trust a fast talker that drops names. 2. Always research a person’s background before your follow them. 3. Stay original and don’t compromise your idea but allow qualified mentors to help mold your idea to newer heights in your career. 4. Never expect fame and fortune to come to you but instead go to it and pursue it like a stalker. 5. Invest in your craft and it will pay back 10 fold.

DSR: Are you working on any projects at the moment?

We Dig A Little Deeper Into What Inspires Him To Make Beats

Vell Da HitMakr Is Confident His Beats Can Change Up The Standard Industry Sound

<img class="alignleft" title="Photo_on_2013-02-16_at_18.10__2" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Photo_on_2013-02-16_at_18.10__2.jpg" alt="beats"width="233" height="379" />DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in making music/beats?

Vell: I started writing rhymes at the age of 13 and around 16. I knew I wanted to be behind the scenes of the music game and come up with beats that spark creativity in the artist to make a hit.

DSR: What formed your love of music in your head and inspired you to start making beats?

Vell: Just being around music all my life my family is full of musicians and singers so it just came with the territory.

DSR: Let’s get to know a little more about you and how you grew up. What was it like in your hometown? What kind of kid were you?

Vell: I was born in Atlanta Georgia but I moved to Kinston, NC. Kinston is where I got my toughness from my attitude and heart. It’s just a tough and gritty place to live. As a kid I was the A and B honor roll type, shy, never spoke too much until I got older.

DSR: So let’s talk about your beats. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?

Vell: Crazy! I make my tracks to induce an emotion whether it be mad, sad, happy, ready to fight after listening one of those will show.

DSR: What is the significance of your name?

Vell: Throughout the years I’ve had so many names i will not to expose haha but VeLLDaHitMakR I chose because of my nickname which is VeLL and I love to say we got another hit, It took a couple of months to decide to run with but it’s me it’s what I do.

DSR: There’s a part of the industry that irks me the most, where talented individuals gets overlooked because they don’t fit a mold. How frustrating is that for you, if people seem to think that you don’t have that sound for radio?

Vell: People say I do too many Trap music beats I’m from the south if you check my catalogue you will see I do way more than just Trap music but as far as the look I think I’m very marketable.

DSR: What do you think needs to be brought to music in this decade and how do you plan to add to that?

Vell: Lyrics that’s a big thing missing and I’m working with an artist now that will bring it back to the music industry.

DSR: What do you think of the beats used in tracks that came out in the last decade?

Vell: Us as producers and artist need to bring back quality there’s so much quantity in the game and not much quality tracks out there I wanna help bring it back.

DSR: How would you rate your beat-making skills when compared to other beats heard on the radio?

Vell: I use to think a long time ago I could never put a beat together now its like man i made something like that yesterday when i listen to the radio. The radio could use me that’s all I’m going to say. <img class="alignright" title="favpicforsite" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/favpicforsite.jpg" alt="beats"width="307" height="230" />

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far and if so, what are they?

Vell: Be patient that’s the biggest thing. Everything doesn’t happen at the snap of a finger. Humble yourself.

DSR: Are you working on any new projects with artists or have any projects that you are promoting right now?

Vell: I’m currently producing on a mixtape for the artist J-ReeL called “ReeL MusiK” check him out at www.reverbnation.com/jreel

DSR: Have you entered any beat competitions and won?

Vell: No as far as online no but i wouldn’t mind battling live crowd me and a producer with our MPC5000′s that would be fun.

DSR: Where can we find your beats online?

Vell: hitmakrbeatz.com and www.reverbnation.com/Velldahitmakr also www.hotnewhiphop.com/VeLLDaHitMakR

DSR: We ask everyone that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice that someone has ever given to you?

Vell: Always stay hungry never feel like you have done enough so I keep working all the time to get better.

DSR: Is there anything else that you would like to include in closing of this interview?

Vell: Follow me on twitter @VeLLDaHItMakR

Thanks for stopping through Dubb Spot today Vell and keep banging out them beats!

Our radio interviews are not only live but also perfect to enhance your EPKs

You need radio interviews like this to help spread the word about your music.

Radio interviews are important due to the fact that we do not only live in a World that is visual but yet also one that can be intrigued. A positive voice goes a long way when it comes to music. Have you ever heard someone say, “I like the voice but they sound like they can’t talk?” That’s not a good thing. People want to get a sense of what type of individual you are. Yes the music sounds good and you may have skills but that does not mean that you can also hold it down when in an interview. Our radio interviews are made to bring out the best topics in you. You have to remember that when you are on live radio, this is your time to shine. I understand that it can bring about nerves and a sense of not knowing what to say but don’t let that deter you.

So why do you need a radio interview…

There are several reasons why you should take advantage of radio interviews. First and foremost to let people understand you not only as an artist but as an individual too. It’s a known fact that once a person feels a certain bond with your mannerisms and personality, it becomes a lot easier for them to take an interest in what you are doing. Just think, if someone thinks you are arrogant because of the lyrics you use in your tracks, you can change that perception by being the complete opposite in the interview. You do not want people assuming you are a particular way when you know yourself that you are not. And as stated before, WDSR will bring the best out of you. Of course the most important reason to do live interviews is to self-promote all of your new releases, live events or music videos getting ready to be released to the public

So with that said, here’s how you can take advantage of one of our affordable live radio interviews.

Music Artist Chay Crews is Dubb Spot Records’ Featured Artist of the Week!

Her Versatility as a Music Artist is Phenomenal!

It’s a Pleasure To Have Such A Wonderful Music Artist on the Team.

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in music?

Chay: I was 9 years old

DSR: What was your earliest musical memory? What formed your love of music in your head?

Chay: My earliest memory was when I was about 8 and my parents were listening to the Manhattans and my father discovered I was paying more attention to the harmonies then the lyrics. In made him laugh because I was trying to find my note..

DSR: Let’s get to know a little more about you and how you grew up. What was it like in your hometown? What kind of kid were you?

Chay: In my hometown all I seen was people day in and day out going to work and coming home. That’s what my parents did. My mom was always making sure we were safe and protected at all times. As I got older I notice that nobody here had dreams and if they did I never seen it. As a kid all I knew about was going outside to play and have fun and getting dirty. I was such a tomboy. I didn’t want to do anything or wear anything my brother couldn’t wear!

DSR: So let’s talk about your music. How would you describe your sound as a music artist to someone who has never heard it before?

Chay: I can’t really describe my sound. When people see me they already have an idea what I’m about to do. They give me a whining voice with a cute face typical, but when I get off that stage it’s a whole new ballgame. I don’t have to describe it, they do it by the looks on their faces.

DSR: What is the significance of your name?

Chay: Ha, Chay Crews ok it’s like this. Everyone has an alter ego but in my case it’s more personal. Chay came from hurt, depression, not feeling loved at times. Chay Crews allows me to say whatever I want on stage and don’t think twice about it. I absolutely love that part of me, outspoken and can own up to it!! As a music artist, the stage is my strength today and until the day I can’t do it anymore.

DSR: There’s a part of the industry that irks me the most, where a great music artist gets overlooked because they don’t fit a mold. How frustrating is that for you, if people seem to think that you don’t have that sound for radio?

Chay: It’s very frustrating I know I’m a good music artist with lyrics and vocals. Sometimes you do want to quit but I won’t! It’s so much mess out there it’s like nobody cares about the real artist but I remember Neyo said he had deals but they want to shelf him and the label did because he stuck to his guns, well look at him now and that’s why I will keep true to the music. My day is coming!

DSR: What do you think needs to be brought to music in this decade and how do you plan to add to that as a music artist?

Chay: Passion. Real passion. The money will come but they seem to have forgotten that. I plan on adding great music not just beats. Having a real track made in front of me and not by the computer. I mean instruments like they had back in the day!

DSR: What do you think of the music that came out in the last decade? <img title="GEDC2824ccc-1-1" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/GEDC2824ccc-1-1.jpg" alt="music artist"width="322" height="315" />

Chay: Honestly, you can’t tell one music artist from the other so what does that tell you?? Yeah, thought so…

DSR: How would you rate the music that your music competes against in your local area?

Chay: I will say a 10 and that’s not being cocky but taking my career serious. Every studio isn’t a great studio. People must learn that.

DSR: As a music artist have you learned any lessons so far and if so, what are they?

Chay: Yes, every opportunity is not a good one. No matter how bad you want it you must be smart not just as a music artist but business minded as well.

DSR: Do you write all of your own material? And if so, are you working on any new projects or have any projects that you are promoting right now?

Chay: Yes I write all my lyrics and yes I have some new projects in the works. I have a few songs out right now and I don’t like having a lot of different music out there all over the place but please believe me I stay ready!

DSR: Where can the people find you performing or attend the events you are involved in?

Chay: I always post as I go. I always tell people where I will be and let them know ahead of time.

DSR: Where can we find your music online and offline? Online?

Chay: I could name many places but it’s just too many. So I tell people to goggle the music artist Chay Crews and the rest is history.

DSR: We ask all Artists that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice that someone has ever given to you?

Chay: Only you can see your dreams come true so keep being a dreamer!!

DSR: Is there anything else that you would like to include in closing of this interview?

Chay: I want to thank my loving husband and producer Tracy Crook for always believing in me. His faith in me keeps me going. I want to thank Dubb Spot Records for working with me and believing in this Alabama Stallion! I’m ready to show the world who I truly Am!!!!

We Have Featured A Reggae Artist Before But None Like K-Bass!

Although Titled Reggae Artist, K-Bass Adds A Little Twist To His Sound.

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in music?

K-Bass: I was exposed to the traditional Senoufo music of the Ivory Coast from birth as my father and mother where both traditional singers and dancers. By age 14, I knew all the songs that my mother and father used to play and I also knew some of my mother’s dance moves. She was a “Korodjouba” or “dancer-peace maker” in the Senoufo Tribe.

DSR: What was your earliest musical memory? What formed your love of music in your head?

K-Bass: It’s hard to put a finger on just one memory. Music has been a major part of my life and my culture since birth. My brain automatically connects to a good melody no matter in what language. As a kid I remember singing to the tunes of a reggae artist like Salif Keita, Alpha Blondy, Group Kassav, BonnyM, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, AJah Man, Yroy, Julio Iglisias, Mireille Mathieu, and a lot of West African music such as Zouglou and Mandingo music. As I grew up, people would ask me to sing all the time in my home country and I began to learn as much of the contemporary music of my country as possible so I would be prepared. Now original music comes into my head complete with a distinct melody and well-defined lyrics and I just cannot stop singing what comes to me. So I was taught by my parents first and then by being exposed to so many great artists. I eat, breathe, and sleep music.

DSR: Let’s get to know a little more about you and how you grew up. What was it like in your hometown? What kind of kid were you?

K-Bass: I was born and raised into a traditional musical Family in Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast in West Africa. I grew up in poverty. Poverty in Africa is not like poverty in the United States or most of Europe. As a child we didn’t own a TV or any appliances. Our source of light at night was a petroleum lamp or candle. My mother fetched water from a well in the ground and later on from a public water station for us to drink. We would bathe in a bucket using the water my mother gathered from the well every day. In many African Nations either you are poor or you are rich. There is no middle class. I always tried to be a good kid and tried to be very polite and disciplined. Of course I couldn’t get away with any wrong doing even if I wanted to. My mother and father would correct me right away. So my parents and I had to work very hard to get anything that we needed. I knew when we had money for food and when we didn’t and I learned how to be patient. I Love my parents very much and promised myself that I would get my family out of poverty. My parents sacrificed a lot to get me into school. School was miles and miles away from home and you absolutely had to be on time every day. You were expected to go home for lunch, go back at 2Pm, and come back home again before 6Pm. The only vehicle that I had was my two legs and I ran from home to school every day. Eventually, I joined the Ivory Coast National Army where I served for 9 years. As a result I had the opportunity to run formal races and I become one of the Ivory Coast’s top long distance runners. I represented the Ivory Coast in many international athletic races and won many of them. During all that time, music was bursting out of me but I had no way to develop it.

DSR: So let’s talk about your music. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?

K-Bass: The melodies of my music are based on traditional West African tones from Mali and the Ivory Coast. It is a combination of African style reggae music and the very distinct rhythms of Zouglou music and (an Ivory Coast style of African Pop music) and Zouk music from the Caribbean Islands. I sing in French, Bambara, and English. Sometimes as a reggae artist I play straight reggae, but I really like the combination of these styles. It’s a big sound so I have a big band, K-Bass and Farafina Musiki. We have a wonderful keyboardist, a horn section, congas, kick drum, guitars, base guitar, etc., all arranged in collaboration with our music director Joe Townend and assistant music director Scott Anderson. We have an amazing group of beautiful dancers who work with us also, led by Uzo Nwankpa. Eventually, we’ll add more traditional African instruments. The band and my music is always evolving. The vocals drive the music, so I have several backup singers to support me led by Lyn Fritts and Tabitha Danloe. They are the backbone of my music. My goal is to make you dance to the point you can’t stop. My lyrics are uplifting. We want to make you feel really good when you listen to our music but we also address important issues. We just do it in a positive way that makes you want to listen. That, after all, was my mother’s job. Healing and understanding through music and dance.

DSR: What is the significance of your name?

K-Bass: K stands for Karaba, the village my parents came from and Bass is a shortened version of my first name “Bassirima”

DSR: There’s a part of the industry that irks me the most, where great music gets overlooked because it doesn’t fit a mold. How frustrating is that for you, if people seem to think that you don’t have that sound for radio?

K-Bass: You know, so far people really seem to like my music. The bigger challenge is that radio stations tend to favor music that’s promoted by a major studio and there are more radio stations playing to a rock and roll, hip hop or American pop audience at least in the US. Those stations are just following what they believe to be the demand. I have had some radio play and I think that will expand as my fan base grows. I believe in destiny. God has a plan for each of us and he does for me. I have no doubt that the right people in the industry will eventually hear my music and they’ll like it. I love live shows because that is where I connect the most with people who have never heard my music. Once exposed to my music they fall in love with it. I must admit that I listen to the radio and I hear the same songs over and over all day long. The listeners deserved to be exposed to something new something that will expand their horizons and I hope that more radio stations, even those who may not normally play my style of music will take a chance on something different. Based on the audience feedback we have so far, they won’t be sorry.<img title="K-Bass500x300" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/K-Bass500x300.jpg" alt="reggae artist"width="500" height="333" />

DSR: What do you think needs to be brought to music in this decade and how do you plan to add to that as a reggae artist?

K-Bass: I want to bring more substance to the music. Love songs make up the huge majority of the popular music you hear every day. I understand that there is an audience for love songs all over the world and I have one or two myself, but we need to make sure as musicians we lay out other world concerns such as poverty, and peace, and that we sing about the beauty of the universe and what we can do to preserve it. Music should really move someone and give them a meaningful experience while entertaining. My number one goal is to bring people together through my songs. Unity is my main goal. I hate the way people find ways to divide. Division brings war and all of the pain that goes with war.

DSR: What do you think of the music that came out in the last decade?

K-Bass: There is a lot of new music that I like out there but I’ve noticed that 100% electronic music is being used in lot of songs. Computer enhanced vocal performances are being use more and more. That concerns me. It undermines natural vocal talent. How can you compete against a computer and how does an audience connect with something that doesn’t come from the soul but is just mechanical? Someone with true vocal skill can really pour a performance out from their hearts and give the audience something they can really connect with and something to aspire to. I would like to see more of live performances instead of lip synching and auto tune.

DSR: How would you rate the music that your music competes against any other reggae artist in your local area?

K-Bass: We hear from audiences all the time who really fall in Love with our sound and just Love our band. Feedback has been more than positive at each show and our online presence is starting to grow pretty quickly as we find new ways to connect with fans and get the music out there. That’s a wonderful, humbling feeling. I’m not going to compare my music to specific other bands however. There are a lot of musicians out there who I really respect, some of whom we work with when we play concerts. I’ll leave it for the fans to decide who they really connect with.

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far and if so, what are they?

K-Bass: Capital is the key to this business. Money. It’s really challenging to build a management team and to build and maintain a strong band and to reach fans (you need to advertise so that people can find you) with no budget at all and having a strong team behind you is absolutely essential. So very much work and dedication goes into building a career in the business and you must have a lot of patience and be willing to make a lot of sacrifices and have a team behind you that sees the vision. I’ve also learned that you have to be very conscious of what the audience wants to see. A balance between your artistic vision as a reggae artist and the needs of your audience and your target market. You must always maintain your artistic integrity while being aware of what fans really want to hear and see.

DSR: Do you write all of your own material? And if so, are you working on any new projects or have any projects that you are promoting right now?

K-Bass: I am currently promoting my second solo album “La Liberte” which I am very proud of. The album has 17 tracks in three languages. I’m finishing two more albums right now to be released this year and next. I write all of my own lyrics and work with my producer to create the melodies and music. That part is a team effort but I am personally and deeply involved in every aspect of the songwriting. As a reggae artist, I really care about the message in my music and I have a lot to say.

DSR: Where can the people find you performing or attend the events you are involved in?

K-Bass: Stay tuned to my website: www.kbassmusic.com for notices of events and other exciting things. You can also connect with us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/K-Bass-Music/397093760326013 and twitter https://twitter.com/BassirimaSoro

DSR: Where can we find your music online and offline?

K-Bass: Just go to: www.kbassmusic.com. My music can also be found at www.cdbaby.com and can be purchased via digital download or cd.

DSR: We ask all Artists that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice that someone has ever given to you?

K-Bass: Be original and stay original.

DSR: Is there anything else that you would like to include in closing of this interview?

K-Bass: I would like to say this to all the fans and for those who have not heard my music yet. As a reggae artist, song writer, singer, and stage performer I LOVE to share my music with people. My fans are my biggest inspiration. I love to connect with my fans and to see everyone really enjoying my music. That’s my greatest joy. We work really hard to make every detail just right during our shows and to create excellent music that you will be singing for weeks. Please listen to my songs and let the symphony of each song get into your mind. The melodies are made to please you and bring you joy to and make you DANCE.

Thanks K-Bass for stopping through the Dubb Spot. What an experienced Reggae Artist to interview.

New Year’s Eve, the last day of the year, is on December 31. In many countries, New Year’s Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink alcoholic beverages, and watch or light fireworks to mark the new year. Some people attend a watch night service. The celebrations generally goes on past midnight into January 1.

One of the most prominent New Year’s celebrations in the country is the “ball drop” held in New York City’s Times Square. Inspired by the time balls that were formerly used as a time signal, at 11:59 p.m. ET, a 11,875-pound (5,386 kg), 12-foot (3.7 m) diameter Waterford crystal ball located on the roof of One Times Square is lowered down a pole that is 77 feet high, reaching the roof of the building at exactly midnight to signal the start of the New Year. The Ball Drop has been held since 1907, and in recent years has averaged around a million spectators yearly.

You all know him from rocking the airwaves every Thursday night on The Golden Era: Back In The Crates on WDSR Yall Betta Recognize radio. There’s no cost except you getting your BOOGIE on all night New Year’s Eve.

Dewayne Jackson Is Bringing Real Lyrics Back To Hip Hop!

Without Further Adieu We Present Hip Hop Artist Dewayne Jackson

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in hip hop music?

DJ: Very young I would say 12 – 13

DSR: So what area are you from? How is it being a hip hop artist in your area?

DJ: I’m from Houston, Texas, in my area its pretty nice because I can get it out to all my friends and then they give it to their friends, just a lot of word of mouth going on! It’s a lot of opportunities as long as you work hard!

DSR: How would you describe your hip hop sound to someone who has never heard it before?

DJ: I would describe it as a unique very truthful sound! Like to use clever metaphors, something the people can ride to!

DSR: What influences shaped your hip hop musical style?

DJ: West coast! DOM KENNEDY!

DSR: If you had to put yourself into a genre other than hip hop or create your own, what would it be called?

DJ: Smooth rap style JUST BE COOL Genre.

DSR: Who is in charge of writing your hip hop songs? If you, where do you draw your inspiration from?

DJ: Totally myself, I draw inspiration from my everyday life, that’s why im always trying to do something different in my daily life! Because I can only rap what I live.

DSR: What’s the easiest kind of hip hop song for you to write?

DJ: A truthful fun hip hop song!

DSR: What is your main goal at this point? Where do you possibly see yourself 5-10 years from now?

DJ: The point i’m at now I just want to be heard! I’m just trying to put my story out every where! I know there are people in every state that can relate and when they hear it they will vibe with it no doubt! I see myself just making a mark in this rap game! Doing shows in every city having a good fans that I can really interact with through my music and hopefully be gaining more everyday! I just want to be making good music! <img title="ATScoverOFFICIAL" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/ATScoverOFFICIAL-300x300.jpg" alt="hip hop"width="300" height="300" />

DSR: Tell us about some hip hop musical giants who profoundly inspired you.

DJ: Well Dom Kennedy because his style is just incredible to me. It’s just so smooth and I try to take that same approach with my flow! Just the art of story telling of course Kendrick Lamar but mostly DOM!

DSR: Are there any hip hop artists you wish to work with in the future?

DJ: I mean only the people I really look up too! Other than that I just want to be heard!

DSR: If you could create your own hip hop dream tour, who would be a part of it?

DJ: Haha Dom Kennedy Once again! Me and him would Kill ever state, city everything!

DSR: Have you learned any lessons in this hip hop game so far and if so, what are they?

DJ: Yes I have learned that if you work hard those late nights staying up late really pays off, and im just getting started so if I continue to work like I do I know im going to go pretty far with it!

DSR: Are you working on any hip hop projects at the moment?

DJ: Yes! Getting in the studio next month most likely and have it released very soon!

DSR: Where can we find your hip hop music? Online and offline?

DJ: On the Hot New Hip Hop website —-> hnhh.co/mduxg ….. Its called A.T.S. by DeWayne Jackson

DSR: We ask all the hip hop artists we interview, what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?

DJ: Just always stay working hard and at the end of the day when you lay down you have to feel like no one worked harder than you! And that’s basically what I live by day-to-day!

We appreciate you stopping through the Dubb Spot Dewayne Jackson. Keep banging out them hip hop hits! Peace.

She’s A Versatile Artist That Crosses Over Genres So Effortlessly

We had the opportunity to catch up with the artist and find out where her inspiration comes from.

DSR: Welcome MBeyeline! Let the people know where you are from.

MB: Hey MBeyeline comes from Eastern Europe, more exactly, Moldova.

DSR: What is the significance of your name? Who is the artist MBeyeline?

MB: I invented this name when I was 13 years. M comes from my real name Mariana, B from my family name, eye from everyone around telling me I got big eyes, and line – it came to me as the perfect ending to MBeye. I am very attached to it. It’s my stage name.

DSR: Some artists go through a lot of obstacles to get to the point of where they are today. How old were you when you developed an interest in music and decided to become an artist?

MB: I was 2 years when I first showed an interest in music. Began performing when I was 11 years at school events and song contests and at 14 started writing my own songs. Recorded and released my 1st official single, It’s All My Way, at 16 years.

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far as an artist and if so, what are they?

MB: There are so many lessons that I have learned since I started playing this game… But the biggest one is to never give up, cause just when it seems like you hit the rock bottom, another huge opportunity awaits for you around the corner. Always. Sometimes I would even smile when things go really bad cause I know that after this something huge is coming.

DSR: After reading your artist bio, it seems as if you stayed on a constant grind and was determined to get your music in front of everyone you could. Can you speak on how you managed to handle all of that?

MB: 1st of all, my family’s support was the most important along the road. I’ve seen so many talents giving up and losing focus on what they want to achieve just because there was no one to support them, but my family has been there for me the whole time. Even when I felt like giving up, they wouldn’t let me, because they believe in me as an artist. And add to that my crazy ambition and you get as a result the constant grind I’ve been on, and the best is yet to come

DSR:	Sometimes it can be hard for an artist trying to attract the type of attention you’d want to from your fan base. How would you feel to be putting out a lot of money and not seeing any of it come back in from failed promoting attempts?

MB: ”Failed promoting attempts”. Well that suggests failing more than once. I never make the same mistake twice, therefore I don’t lose a lot of money. I try, if it works, will invest more, if it doesn’t, I will try another way until I find what works best for me. In this game you gotta play smart, and by that you are not allowed to waste/lose money cause you are independent and your career is depending just on YOU every single day.

DSR:	Where can the people find the artist MBeyeline performing these days?

MB: NYC and NJ area. I let my fans know about all my upcoming artist performances in advance on my twitter and Facebook.<img title="002" src="http://dubbspotrecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/002-199x300.jpg" alt="Artist"width="199" height="300" />

DSR:	How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?

MB: Clean rap, that comes with catchy pop beats and submerges with influences of hip hop, RnB and dubstep sometimes. Something that everyone could listen to and not be ashamed of. I have fans that are 50+ years so I am very proud of that!

DSR:	Who is in charge of writing the songs? Where do you draw your inspiration from?

MB: I write the lyrics one hundred percent of the time, but in what concerns the music, I work with different people. I want my music to be entertaining therefore I can not keep the same style all the time or work with the same producer for every song. My inspiration comes from my own life. My life is too interesting to look for inspiration somewhere else. And I think that is the best way to stay true to your fans, they know you sing about you, not someone else.

DSR:	As an artist, if you had to put yourself into a genre or create your own, what would it be called?

MB: Hip-pop. The hip hop + pop.

DSR:	Are you working on any projects at the moment?

MB: I am intensively promoting my most recent single Total Control. Which by the way, can be seen in Times Square starting December 26th.

DSR:	Where can we find your music? Online and offline?

MB: Online: i-Tunes (https://itunes.apple.com/album/total-control-single/id569928763), YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/MBeyelineTV) , Reverbnation (http://www.reverbnation.com/MBeyeline) ; Offline : whenever I perform.

DSR:	As an artist, if you can change one thing about the music industry, what would it be and why?

MB: I wouldn’t change anything. The music industry is more fair than you think it is. Times change, people change and so has the music industry to change, now it’s up to the artist if he can keep up with it and have a long-lasting career. Before artists were making money from the CD sales, nowadays the major income comes from shows, tours and digital downloads.

DSR: We know you’re an artist but what other talents do you possess?

MB: I am good at video producing. I write the scenarios for all of my music videos and I edit, co-edit them. Recently I have directed music videos for other artists as well.

DSR: Each artist that we interview, we ask, “what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?”

MB: ”Music is not about any mystic stuff, it’s all simple: hard work”

Thanks for stopping through Dubb Spot today. It’s all so inspiring to talk to an up and coming artist.
