Vell Da HitMakr Is Confident His Beats Can Change Up The Standard Industry Sound

DSR: How old were you when you developed an interest in making music/beats?

Vell: I started writing rhymes at the age of 13 and around 16. I knew I wanted to be behind the scenes of the music game and come up with beats that spark creativity in the artist to make a hit.

DSR: What formed your love of music in your head and inspired you to start making beats?

Vell: Just being around music all my life my family is full of musicians and singers so it just came with the territory.

DSR: Let’s get to know a little more about you and how you grew up. What was it like in your hometown? What kind of kid were you?

Vell: I was born in Atlanta Georgia but I moved to Kinston, NC. Kinston is where I got my toughness from my attitude and heart. It’s just a tough and gritty place to live. As a kid I was the A and B honor roll type, shy, never spoke too much until I got older.

DSR: So let’s talk about your beats. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?

Vell: Crazy! I make my tracks to induce an emotion whether it be mad, sad, happy, ready to fight after listening one of those will show.

DSR: What is the significance of your name?

Vell: Throughout the years I’ve had so many names i will not to expose haha but VeLLDaHitMakR I chose because of my nickname which is VeLL and I love to say we got another hit, It took a couple of months to decide to run with but it’s me it’s what I do.

DSR: There’s a part of the industry that irks me the most, where talented individuals gets overlooked because they don’t fit a mold. How frustrating is that for you, if people seem to think that you don’t have that sound for radio?

Vell: People say I do too many Trap music beats I’m from the south if you check my catalogue you will see I do way more than just Trap music but as far as the look I think I’m very marketable.

DSR: What do you think needs to be brought to music in this decade and how do you plan to add to that?

Vell: Lyrics that’s a big thing missing and I’m working with an artist now that will bring it back to the music industry.

DSR: What do you think of the beats used in tracks that came out in the last decade?

Vell: Us as producers and artist need to bring back quality there’s so much quantity in the game and not much quality tracks out there I wanna help bring it back.

DSR: How would you rate your beat-making skills when compared to other beats heard on the radio?

Vell: I use to think a long time ago I could never put a beat together now its like man i made something like that yesterday when i listen to the radio. The radio could use me that’s all I’m going to say.

DSR: Have you learned any lessons so far and if so, what are they?

Vell: Be patient that’s the biggest thing. Everything doesn’t happen at the snap of a finger. Humble yourself.

DSR: Are you working on any new projects with artists or have any projects that you are promoting right now?

Vell: I’m currently producing on a mixtape for the artist J-ReeL called “ReeL MusiK” check him out at

DSR: Have you entered any beat competitions and won?

Vell: No as far as online no but i wouldn’t mind battling live crowd me and a producer with our MPC5000’s that would be fun.

DSR: Where can we find your beats online?

Vell: and also

DSR: We ask everyone that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice that someone has ever given to you?

Vell: Always stay hungry never feel like you have done enough so I keep working all the time to get better.
